Let me start by saying, we both thoroughly enjoyed the reboot. We were completely psyched when we found out they were making one and made sure we went to see it as soon as it opened. IN FACT… We even managed to score tickets to see it 2 days before it officially opened. It was a fantastic movie that I absolutely love… With a few notable exceptions… WHICH I WILL GET TO, STAY WITH ME OMG. I remember seeing the posters for the movie. At the time, my husband was the big Trekkie, and I had just seen some episodes here and there, but I had never seen any series in it’s entirety. The posters that were around our theater were the big cut-outs of this… At the time, I didn’t think anything of it, because I hadn’t seen TOS in it’s entirety, but now I know why my husband was so annoyed. Now that I have seen TOS in it’s entirety… and I am thoroughly attached to the characters, I have an opinion. When I go back to look at all of the posters for the 2009 reboot, either Uhura is right next to Kirk and Spock where Bones should be… OR BONES IS NOT ON THE POSTER AT ALL! What the actual fuck??! Now, let me be clear… I love Uhura in TOS. To me, she was a dedicated Starfleet officer, an incredibly intelligent woman, and also very beautiful, talented, and playful person. The main thing I liked about Uhura was how genuinely sweet she came off, even though she could be sassy when needed. And let’s be honest… Uhura was not a main character. Star Trek TOS was the KirkandSpockandBones show, and as Scotty says “Those are the facts”.  BUT. Uhura in the 2009 reboot? To me, she was a dedicated Starfleet officer, an incredibly intelligent woman, very beautiful and a total catty bitch who used her relationship with Spock to get what she wanted. I really did not like Uhura in the reboot, which makes me sad because I loved Uhura in TOS. And I hate to say it this way, but Uhura was an afterthought in TOS, and she was so prominent in the reboot that I started to get sick of seeing her.BUT… this is a reboot, and timelines and science and all that shit… So okay. I’ll forgive some things. I can forgive Uhura being a twat. I can kind of forgive Uhura and Spock’s relationship even though it just seems forced at times. I don’t want to, but I can forgive Bones not being on screen as much because IT IS A REBOOT and they had to squeeze a lot of “How everyone met each other” into an hour and a half (and Karl Urban was fucking gold in every scene, so that helps too). But not even including Bones on the poster?? OR when you do include him he is separated from his boys by Uhura?? That’s bullshit.  Fuck they have everyone else on the poster… I’m surprised that Olson and Nurse Chapel didn’t make it on there too. Gaila should have been there. Admiral Pike too! Also BB!Spock and BB!Kirk should have been there. And that weird face guy that was between Kirk and Uhura at the bar. OH AND CUPCAKE DON’T FORGET HIM! How about all of the extras from the Academy. And make sure you add Tyler Perry. FUCK JUST PUT EVERYONE ON THE POSTER AND MAKE SURE THAT BONES IS THE TINYEST PIXEL IN THE BOTTOM LEFTHAND CORNER BECAUSE HE’S ONLY GOOD FOR CATCHPHRASES AND COMIC RELIEF, RIGHT?! IT’S NOT LIKE HIS CHARACTER IS IMPORTANT OR COMPLETELY BALANCES OUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPOCK AND KIRK, RIGHT?! /end rant THISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHIS
